FC9 - Kernel panic not syncing videodev bad unregister

I have an HP Pavillion PC and I just installed 32 bit Fedora Core 9. Initially during fist startup, the screen would turn off after starting Udev, and eventually the computer powers down. I got by this problem by using acpi=off. But now I get a kernel panic with the following message:

Kernel panic not syncing videodev bad unregister

And I cannot proceed from there. The machine just hangs.

Has anyone seen this message before because my search for this error message was to no avail.

I am relatively new to Linux by the way.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

kernal panic is not the death nell it might appear to be. Fedora is an expreimental version of red hat and don't be too surprised if the latest version does not work 100%. Perhaps try an older version of Fedora and get the updates-people have had chance to adapt the os by then.
