when you say you can surf the web what exactly do you mean? what sites do work?

how are you connecting to the internet - dial up, dsl/adsl? wireless/ wired

please provide the output of 'ifconfig' (and 'iwconfig' if using wireless)

also provide the output of 'route'

It's tough to troubleshoot w/o any logs.

I would recommend two things:

1. DNS should be set by your provider. You should need to do any manual configuration with this. You get the DNS IP's with your DHCP address assignment. If you made a setting change on this it could be that you broke it yourself. Accept the defaults.

2. Disable DNS cacheing on your router. You may have this enabled and it will slow down the name resolution for your PC.

You may want to post back the the output of the following command as well:

cat /etc/resolv.conf

The above file will have your DNS server addresses. If your provider is having problems this may be the problem you're experiencing as well. Is your only problem on Linux or is Windows affected too?

You could always try out opendns.com as well.
