FC6 bootup blues...

Hi,

My system configuration was Intel 915 chipset, 2.8GHz, 256MB Ram.
I installed Fedora Core 4 with swap partition of 2 GB. It was working fine.

Recently I upgrded system RAM to 1 GB and installed Fedora Core 6.
From then hell broke down... I mean boot up takes nearly 20 min.
udev takes nearly 10 min and after that all processes antoher 10 min...

Is there any way I can increase this speed??
Is it problem with FC6 or because of my RAm upgradation or SWAP partition size??

Requset advice...

Regards,
JK

Did you verify the integrity of the CD's/DVD you downloaded? (sha1 sum)

Did you wipe the HDD or partition you installed in before installing?

Did you install recommended ram type? What type?

Make & model of computer would be nice info, mobo also if it's a clone.

Is this one stick at 1GB ram and you removed old 256?, dram should always be identical for optimum performance when installed in pairs, same company and everything, odd configuration will definitely be noticed.

I have pentium 4 650 (3.4Ghz), 1GB ddrsdram, 915 chip set (very good mainstream chip set) installed FC6 x86_64 on clean partition (wrote 0's across partition before install) and is no slower than any other distro I have on here. Your swap should not be larger than twice the amount of ram, in fact it can be smaller because you have lots of ram.

Yes, I got Fedora Core 6 from Fedora Bible book.
I didn't wiped the HDD. My HDD is Dual Boot.
And already it was having Fedora Core 4. I just upgraded it.
I bought 2, 512 MB SDRAM of Transcend DDR400 JetRam, installed it in pairs so that it will be identical.
And I removed 256 MB RAM from system.
My computer is a self assembled - not of any specific company. But I bought all origianl parts, though they were costly at that time(in 2004 December). P4, 2.8 GHz - Intel original 915 chipset. I also have warranty cards with me.

Hey forgot to tell one thing. By mistake FC6 DVD installed i586 core - I run http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Bugs/F...97983a3822f143
to install laterst i686 core.

Please suggest...

Not much I can recommend at this point other than checking the integrity of the disc. I'm sure you installed recommended memory type specified by your mother board manufacturer. Take a look at the thread who's link is below of someone who had similar problems, he/she also provides a link for checking the integrity of the disk. Although your computer is newer, it may just be a hardware configuration issue that Fedora can't adjust to.
