FC4-64 wont update kernel

well since FC4-64 seems to be my linux distro of choice next to Suse64 i have it installed and like it enough i am TRYING to use it more.
although at this point all that its good for is internet surfing and email and chat.
no games, no video(yes installing codecs is a pain in the ass and not worth the trouble pfpf dont even get me started on mp3 support. jesus there are how many free codecs and none of them can be included in FC ? ), no webcam, no nothing. bah when will linux get with the program!! up to core 4 and STILL no SATA RAID support. they can do it if they really wanted., this whole thing about issue using the onboard chipset is rubbish. just enable bloody sata raid support out of the box for heavens sake please. I and no one else is going to destroy their array just so they can create a software linux raid for a small partition to install linux on. >:|

ok anyways im always keeping up on updates as they show up. BUT now there is a new kernel - - kernel-2.6.12-1.1387_FC4.x86_64
yes i am using FC4 64bit

but the update says i need to update the kernel and yet everytime i run Up2Date it finds no updates.
so i download the rpm and try to run it, it says permission denied. why ? i have no clue but this is one of the reasons i hate linux. im logged in as root and it tells me i dont have permission ? ! pfpfpfp. yes yes i know dont use root to do this.. bah ok sure. then why even have a root account. ?

ok anyways.

updating something such as a kernel via rpm is something i truly truly do not want to do. i would rather let Up2Date handle it as i know i would mess it up.

so the kernel IS on other mirrors but how can i change the update mirror ?
or how can i tell FC to actually download the updated kernel from the default mirror.

anyone wanna throw me a bone here ?

Up2date is broken. See this link for a workaround.

A better option is to use yum for updates. Run

# yum update
