FC3 64-bit won't GUI install...

Since recently upgrading to an AMD Athlon 64 and experiencing nothing but headaches with Winblows XP Pro I have decided to make the switch to linux. I had already successfully installed FC3 32-bit but I would much rather run the 64-bit version.

I downloaded the FC3 x64 ISO files (CDs 1,2,3 and 4) and confirmed their MD5 against the FC3 site. Then I burned the files to CDs using K3B and verified after writing, all checked out ok (I did this since my first attempt using Nautillus gave "FAIL" in media check during install). I have also done the media check on the second batch of discs, they all passed.

However, when I try to run the install, as it reports that it is running "Anaconda" the screen blacks out and then displays a garbled image. Notably, the FC3 32-bit installer detected my monitor (a CRT Philips 109S 19") but the 64-bit reports it as "Unknown", IIRC. I was able to complete the install of FC3 64 by entering "linux text" at the install prompt and following the instructions for text install but on first boot up the result when X-Windows tries to run is a similar garbled screen as in the GUI install.

As I have read here, I exited X with the ctrl+alt+bkspc combination, but I am *almost* totally lost in terminal mode. I say almost because I have tried linux in the past but never got very far with it, I have read a few basic books on the subject and can navigate the file system and use text editors and so on, but not much else. I have always struggled to understand the more advanced texts simply because I have not had a linux system to practice on.

Anyway, here is some details of my system:

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ (939)
ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe (nforce 4 ultra, pci express)
Gigabyte GeForce 6600GT 128MB PCI-EX
1GB Corsair Dual Channel DDR RAM
Western Digital SATA 160GB HDD
Audigy 2 ZS

Please tell me if there is any info that I can provide further to assist anyone who might help me?
