fbset doesnt change anything and breaks console

i run as root:

fbset -a 800x600-60
it makes by screen go black!!! so i hit ctrl+alt+f# login and try:

fbset -i

and it didnt change anything!!!! im getting pissed!!!



btw my goal is to run fbxine but it gives me crap about

so a google search said to screw with fbset....

Are you trying to change the resolution? (I just did a google search on your command and only got three pages, 2 of which were foreign languages). I've only ever used fbset to change a background...as in "fbsetbg -f /path/to/image".

Sorry if I got the wrong idea.

i got it but no i was wanting to change settings for fbxine to play movies in the console without x server running

fbset -a -xres 1024 -vxres 1024 -yres 768 -vyres 768 -depth 32 -match -accel true -hsync high -vsync high
that did it but it eats resources like candy!!!
