fbi needs rw access to the framebuffer devices

Code:
ls -al /dev/fb*
crw-rw---- 1 root video 29, 0 Sep 8 02:08 /dev/fb0
This shows that, on my machine, the user needs to be in the video group to have rw access.

What is the output when you try to open up a jpg image?

Code:
fbi /path/to/file.jpg
See
Code:
man fbi
for more details.
