"fatal server error no screens found"


This is my first linux installation, and finaly when I knew how to get sarted I got amessage reading "fatal server error no screens found"

I'm using red hat 9 ona compaq 7170 (very old) with s3 trio 64 video card. Any suggestions?

Likely your /etc/X11/XF86Config file wasn't written properly during the installation. Make sure you know all the specs for your monitor and videocard first. Then run the xf86config command, That will launch a text-based wizard that will walk you through re-setting up the XF86Config file.

If it still doesn't work, you might have to manually edit the file using a text editor.

did u do a custom installation
