Fastest newbie distro!

Greetings

I have one simple curiosity:

For a Linux user who until know only tried Mandrake 10.0 and 10.1, Suse 9.2, and also used Knoppix for partitioning, and that despite this could still be called an "experienced newbie" ;-) , wich linux distro is the fastest and stablest for a newbie?

Thanks

Stable distribution

I have tried Mandrake 8.0, Caldera, RedHat 7.2, 8.0, 9.0 and RedHat Enterprise.

I felt RedHat has been providing stable distributions for long .. May be u can try RedHat Enterprise, I m using it right now .. Even RedHat 9.0 wud be a nice choice ..

Good day .....

I've began with RedHat 9 and it was pretty easy to use. But I've now switched to Slackware wich is a little bit less user friendly. So I would suggest you to use Fedora Core wich is the non commercial version of RedHat or to stick with Mandrake because I've heard that it is easy to use. But of course, I suggest Slackware even if it is harder to learn :)

I've also heard that Mandrake is easy to use, but you asked about speed and stability, and I've heard that Mandy is none too stable. Any default install is going to be a bit bloated, so my recommendation;
Slackware with a customised install so that you only have the applications that you need, used with XFCe desktop. It will run like greased lightning. Stability is a Slackware watchword.
