Angry fast forward mp3 playing in xmms for fedora core 1

hi,

i have installed the mp3 plugin in xmms in fedora core 1.
i can add mp3 files to my playlist in xmms and get it to play, but its so strange that it play in fast forward mode, and i cant hear any sound coming out either.
for other audio files, xmms works fine; i can listen to the music.

any help is very much appreciated, thanks!

From the XMMS FAQ at:
http://www.xmms.org/faq.php#Running4

"My XMMS don't output any sound and it seems to go about 3 -> N times as fast.
Whoops, you have been using the diskwriter plugin, press ctrl + p and change the output plugin to either OSS or ESD. You might want to check the configuration for the diskwriter plugin, the path will contain a couple of well sized wavs."
