I trying to upgrade to 14.4
but get this message:

I used Google to find out what language this is.
It's Danish.

It means: "Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored or old ones used".

What version of Ubuntu is installed now that your trying to upgrade to 14.04?

Looking at this link you should have more error messages that accompany with one you posted.
Something like: W: failed to fetch http: (rest of the line)

If your os in in Danish and your sources list is in Danish it will be very hard to assist you.

The version showing in your link indicates you have Ubuntu 8.04 installed and support for that ended May, 2011. You can't upgrade and will have to do a new install.

You could try this tutorial:

If I had to guess the upgrade is not working it's becuase the sources list is not right.
Meaning that the upgrade can't come from the trusty repo because it's not in your sources list.
