fails to boot after grub

xubuntu 11.10.

So, no changes. no updates. Everything has been working fine. I went to reboot and grub shows up and bam. Nothing. alt-f2 doesn't get me anywhere. Nothing happens. I hit ctrl-alt-del and it restarts and brings me back to grub. I can't get the kernel to load and I"m not sure what the next step should be. I'm not familiar enough with how linux loads. Suggestions?

Get out you install dvd, boot the system with that. There is an option to use the install media as a live CD/DVD.

Once booted, you can mount any partitions you need to, have a look at what grub is pointing at. You will have to do some PD, to fix.

Post what you find, ask more questions. With what you have posted so far, there is not enough information to guide you.
