Hi,
"OPC" means "Optimum Power Calibration" about which the MMC-5 specs say:
"OPC is a procedure performed by an optical storage device to calibrate
laser power. Values from this calibration are used for subsequent write
operations."
So the drive has a problem to find a suitable laser power setting for
the given DVD. This can be the fault of the drive or the fault of the DVD.
So i join the proposal of quickbreakfast to try other DVDs, best from
a different brand. E.g if it's Verbatim, then any other. If any other,
then Verbatim. (Verbatim is not as promiscuous as other brands which
print their label on various manufacturers' products.)
The advise to set speed to 1x is actually for users of growisofs, who
could use option "--speed=1" to choose the lowest available drive speed.
Obviously K3B inquires the drive's speed list and knows that 8x is the
lowest one offered for this medium.
I.e. the advise has effectively been followed by speed 8x.
The size of data files in the emerging filesystem is not related to an
OPC problem.
Have a nice day
