Failed with sendmail configuration in CENTOS 6.4
 
Hello guys, I have just started the linux thing and find it interesting! I'm stuck in a problem! I am having a static IP like 111.234.205.195 (not real), i have hosted website on it but unable to send email through it. I tried sendmail but i think i am missing something. Please help me!:cry:

how do we know what you're missing if we've no idea what the config looks like? You are relaying to yourself? Think that's what that suggests...

This is almost certainly wrong. you should have commented this line out, not changed it, as that shows why you can't connect to it from the machien itself.

Just to clarify, you need to uncomment (remove leading & trailing 'dnl' strings) from the SMART_HOST line to enable you to send email out through the designated machine (IP).

Note [ ], this disables DNS lookups on the IP if you don't want sendmail to bother.
If using an FQDN instead, again, consider using [ ] or adding the entry to /etc/hosts, so that sendmail will try to continue, even if DNS is down.
Don't forget to check/amend /etc/nsswitch.conf to match.

line that you need to specify what IP to listen on

NB: whenever you change the sendmail.mc file, you must restart the service as this causes it to process the file and create the sendmail.cf file, which is the one it actually uses to run.
You can check the content of that because its ASCII text, just harder to read.

The fact you're error msg mentions 127.0.0.1 probably suggests you haven't done the restart.

check the listen with

FYI although sendmail was the default MTA for RHEL5, as of RHEL6 the default is postfix.

Mails started going to lakshyainstitute.com emails but not on gmail.com, yahoomail.com or any other.

Not sure if you can use multiple IPs, you'd have dig out the sendmail manuals/books.
Eg http://docstore.mik.ua/orelly/other/Sendmail_3rd/

You can use an FQDN as I explained, but I believe you have to be on a static registered public IP, or they won't accept incoming email from you. This is due to spammers using email bots on people's home systems.

Some ISPs will allow you to route through their mailservers, but you'd have to talk to them

I think we've reached the limit of my email system knowledge, so I'll stop there.

Thanks a lot Chris... I figured out the problem. Main problem is that the router is not allowing the PORT 25. I tried to telnet my static IP externally on PORT 25 gave no response while gave response on PORT 80! I have mailed my ISP to bypass the 25 PORT in the firewall of the router. I hope this may solve my problem! But yes, i really Thank you for sparing time on my problem!

SOLVED sendmail problem
 
But it actually helped... Now mails are being sent! Yesterday late evening the guy from ISP called up and unblocked the PORT 25 and thereafter all the mails came... Anyway... Thanks for giving your precious time...
