Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module also my system crashed and I get 'lock files'
I'm going around in circle of desperation and anguish, ha! I have been at it for 2 days, and surly made the problem worse. Basically my resolution just jumped to 800 by 600. I have done a bunch of stuff, trying to install the drivers, and working with Synaptic Package Manger, and terminal but my terminal won't allow much room to work with lock file and permission denied #13 stuff. I think this stems from an earlier problem with loading vuze, and I accidental became root user, I'm not sure but I think I still am root but don't know how to get out.

Yes, I would be happy to...I have a Acer desktop...AMD Dual Core 3800+, 1GB memory, Graphic card is GeForce 6100 nForce 405.
I watched a documentary, came back and my screen was black, but on, and then when I rebooted it was in a 800by600 resolution. I tried the display, but it no longer had any other resolution but a smaller one, I tried Hardware drivers but they aren't there now, I tried Synaptic Manger, and tried different stuff off the web on terminal but I get nowhere. For instance if I try apt-cache policy linux-headers-2.6.31-14-generic
W...I get Unable to locate package linux-headers-2.6.31-14-ge

resolution
I have a higher resolution working now, but I don't think it's going to stay as I was getting error messages in Nvidia Server Setting will doing it. Nvidia Server appeared under the Administration tab, I'm not sure how I got it there, but it's there now. I was wondering what test I can run, perhaps some terminal commands that I could use and get some data on my system whether every thing is cool or not. I would then share it with you. Thanks for your help.
