Failed to load the JNI shared library

I have downloaded eclipse onto Suse and when I try to launch it I get the following error:

Quote:
Failed to load the JNI shared library "/usr/lib64/jvm/java-1_4_2-ibm-1.4.2/jre/bin/j9vm/libjvm.so"
How do I solve this problem??

Thanks

Hello HarryBoy,

Could you give us some more information, like:
- Suse version & architecture
- Java version (we can say you're working with java ibm-1.4.2)
- Output of java -version & javac-version
- Any other error messages

Any other information can be helpfull

Would it be possible to update your Java version? at this moment the Oracle one is at version 7 (1.7), and you're using IBM 1.42.

I don't think It's possible to update my java version but I'll investigate.

I noticed on the command line, before the above error message appears I see the following:

"/usr/lib64/jvm/java-1_4_2-ibm-1.4.2/jre/bin/j9vm/libjvm.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64"

my machine details are:

uname -a
Linux MyDevelopmentLinux 3.0.13-0.27-default #1 SMP Wed Feb 15 13:33:49 UTC 2012 (d73692b) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

Thanks

It looks like the issue is related to architecture mismatch, more specifically different bit architectures of java and eclipse.

What bit version of eclipse you're running?

What bit of JAVA is in place?

What's happening if you run eclipse with -vm /path/to/java/bin ?
