Failed To Load Session Cinnamon (Linux Mint)

Hello everyone,

I just tried upgrading to Linux Mint 17 from version 16, and I obviously did something wrong since when I'm prompted for my password, I get an error message saying "failed to load session cinnamon."

Then there are some error logs which say failed to connect to virtual box kernel service for several lines, then below that "unable to find cinnamon-fullback-mount-helper."

I tried doing ctrl alt f2, but I get a whole bunch of gobbledy gook which I'm unable to copy and paste.

I also tried burning a new DVD-R with Mint 17, but my computer doesn't even read it when I power it on. Otherwise, I would have tried reinstalling the OS.

So any suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi:

Go into your BIOS and change your boot priority order and than try booting the live CD.
Make the first choice in your boot order to be the CDROM save the changes and upon rebooting your pc should start
booting up the Mint CD.

If your not sure how to get into your BIOS look in your motherboard book.

If you don't have your mobo book post the make and model of your machine and I'll see if I can find your mobo book online and tell you which key it is to enter into the BIOS.-

Most desktop it's pressing F10 or F11, the Delete key (on older pc's) while the machine is booting up.
On my laptop it's F2:-

Were you using Cinnamon previously with Mint 16?
Did you check the md5sum of the downloaded Mint 17 .iso file? A bad download is the first thing you should check.
Is this a very old computer? What are the specs?
