Failed to execute child process (Permission denied)
 
Oracle VM VirtualBox does not launch
and desktop shortcuts to individual machines give this error:

There was an error launching the application.
Details: Failed to execute child process "usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox" (Permission denied)



OS: SUSE Linux 11, kernel linux 2.6.32.59-0.3-pae, GNOME 2.28.2
notebook: HP ProBook 4530s, Intel Core




CTRL+ALT+F3
root
password
exit
user
password
exit
user
password
shut down from notebook button
restart
and now virtualbox is working again

any idea why?

Are you trying to launch the instance via an unprivileged user?

There's only one user other than root.
It really looked like a temporary loss of privileges.

Do you get the above error if you try and launch the application as the root user?
