Failed to 'make menuconfig'

Dear all,

The 'make menuconfig' or 'make xconfig' command just did not work for my Red Hat Linux Enterprise 3 machine. Can anyone suggest another command with the same function or the linux version that works with the above commands?

Besides that, I could not patch with 'patch -p1 < file.patch' command although I have the file.patch file in the directory.
Please help!

Thanks a lot!

'make menuconfig' required ncurses library to compile the configuration program. Similar, xconfig requires tcl (kernel version 2.4) or qt (version 2.6). For ncurses you need 'libncurses-devel' package, for tcl - 'tcl' and probably 'tcl-tk', for qt 'libqt-devel. All the packages should be on your installation cd, but may notbe installed in your system.

patch executable is probably in 'patch' package. Check if you have it.
