Failed Login after restarting DM

Hello, i've been trying to enable tap-to-click on my laptop, i've done the following:

apt remove xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

apt install xserver-xorg-input-libinput

echo 'Section "InputClass"
Identifier "libinput touchpad catchall"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "libinput"
Option "Tapping" "on"
EndSection'| sudo dd of=/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf

systemctl restart gdm3

After executing the last line i can't seem to be able to log back in. If the wrong password is typed it displays the password is wrong but if its correct it does nothing and goes back to the beginning...
Any ideas on what i did wrong?

I tried that echo and dd command - but into a file in a safe location!!
I got
Code:
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "libinput touchpad catchall"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "libinput"
Option "Tapping" "on"
EndSection
Is this what you wanted?

BTW I don't have a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf though.
Have you tried resetting it back to what it was before you changed it?
