Unhappy Failed dependinces? What the.........

I have college linux and every time I try to install a .rpm it gives me failed dependencies errors. I tried turning off the dependence check, but then it just gives me different errors that mean the same thing.

This means you have to find out which rpms are needed to solve the dependencies, and install them at the same time as the target rpm. Your distribution may have an automated method to do this, otherwise, the tried and true method is to use or the mirror nearest you (probably ). The fallback might be to use a google search on the dependency listed.

If that fails, you can list the required dependency here, and someone can probably help you.

The dependencies are there for a reason : they are bits of software which your rpm will not work correctly without. You need to note down the names of the dependencies and install those first.

Some package management tools (e.g. apt-get with debian and urpmi with Mandrake) sort out the dependencies for you and, where possible, install them automatically. Basic rpm does not.
