Facing problem as copying files from Windows partition to Mandriva Linux is slow.

Hi there,

I have both Windows XP and Mandriva installed in my Hard disk.Recently I have noticed that copying large files such as movie files of size about 700 MB from my windows partition to linux partition or vice versa takes more than 10 mins or so. But it is not the case when I login to windows. Copying similar files from one drive to another windows drive takes only about 2 mins or so.

Earlier I was able to copy large files from Windows partition to linux partition and vice versa at a very good speed but it has slowed down very much now.

Please, can anyone tell me why this is so and provide me with any solutions for it. Thank you.

well coping from windows to Linux involve file system conversion,NTFS to ext3/4.
other thing, try the defrag of your NTFS partition.

Well, Ilvista, thank you for your reply. Sorry, for replying you so late. I was not well all these days and so messaging now. You said about defragmenting. Well, I did that but it didn't help. I think may be because of the file conversion thing that you have said, has to do something with it. Anyway, thanks for your suggestion.
