F9 goes black while booting

I tried to logout and login after I got this wierd error with Kwrite (it just stops working all of a sudden... I have had this before and logging out and in again has fixed it in the past) and once I log in now as this user, it looks like its booting up fine for about a half second and then the screen goes black, except for the mouse pointer which I can move around. I am using Fedora 9 with KDE 4. I tried to Alt+Ctrl+backspace and login again but that doesn't work, logging in with root is perfectly fine, and logging in at the command prompt with the problem user is fine too. What can I do to try to fix this? I am kind of stumped on this, where do I start? Thank you.

Have you looked in the log files? There might be more helpful information there. From the command line:

# grep EE /var/log/Xorg.0.log
# grep WW /var/log/Xorg.0.log
# grep kdm /var/log/errors.log
# tail /var/log/kdm.log

Note - I dont know if Fedora has the exact same log files as my archlinux. Look in /var/log to see what you find
