extlinux vs grub for USB problems with both, anyone wanna help?

OK-as most know, syslinux boots fat16/32 USB's, and extlinux can boot ext2/3 Linux FS.
Grub, supposedly, can also boot a USB.

Now, I tried installing extlinux with a couple tutorials-

( )

( )

So far, no luck, it says "can't find kernel linux" at boot.

My USB is Kingston 4GB EXT2 with extlinux in /boot/extlinux/extlinux.sys and extlinux.cfg there too.

The boot flag is set and I did the mbr.bin thing too.

Anybody can help me with this?

2+ years later - a reply. I just set up an SD card with extlinux as the bootloader (and Fedora 15 as the OS). If you still want some pointers, let me know before I forget what I did
