External (USB) hard drive mounting as root

Hi all, I've been having a problem with my external HD. It gets mounted (automatically) with ROOT as the owner. Sometimes I can't save anything to it. How do I mount it with me as the owner?

I tried putting an entry in fstab, but the drive name can change depending on which USB port it is plugged into and what else is plugged in. Is there an easy way to handle all this?

Thanks, Andy

Add it to fstab, but use the UUID of the drive, rather than /dev/sda*. You can find this out by running the following as root:

Code:

blkid

Thanks, that worked
