External USB drives in redhat?

How do I make redhat recognise my seagate external HD? It would seem that only redhat and Mandrake have this problem, because Ubuntu recognised it right aster installing.

Thanks much in advance.

The installed (active) modules list is in /proc somewhere - but /sbin/lsmod will read the file and stick it on the screen for you. As root, in terminal, type /sbin/lsmod and post the output to your reply to this message.

(lsmod = list modules)

You get a similar list with /sbin/lspci and /sbin/lsusb

(lspci = list pci bus and lsusb = list usb devices)

As anybody - do dmesg | grep usb - (dmesg is very long otherwise)

Post all outputs here.

It is not uncommon that you have to manually load the usb mass storage driver. "modprobe usb_storage" ...

There are tutorials about usb in linux - go google.

(2.4.20-6?? Would this be a "publishers" edition?)
