External USB drive

I have an external "Archos" 20GB hard drive that uses USB 2.0 to mount my Windows XP PC. I want to use the external drive to move files back and foreth between the Mandrake Linux PC to the WinXP pc.
I would like to format it half with linux and half with windows.
Does anyone know how to do this.
Please, as much detail as possible.
I'm quite new to the command line.
Thanks Sara

Unless you reformated the drive I assume it is FAT32 out of the box and therefore I would leave it as is for sharing files between XP and linux.

I haven't played with the latest Mandrake in awhile but try just plugging the drive in see if it will automatically create a desktop icon and mount directory. You might have to fiddle with your /etc/fstab.

External USB Drive

Hmm.
Well When I plugged the drive into the Linux box it showed up on the desktop as mnt1 and mnt2.
Then I took it to the Windows box and got a memory error. Windows crashed.
I can reconnect the external to the Linux box but as soon as I try it on the Windows box I get the memory error and the unit reboots itself.
