Question external mouse not clicking

I am running gusty on my toshiba satellite and i have a logitech USB optical mouse. When i plug it in i can move the cursor but thats about it. Sometimes it will let me click the menus in gnome (not in programs though). When i do "lsusb" it says the mouse is there but i have searched everywhere for this and posted on ubuntuforums.org and got no responses. I dual boot with vista and i even kinda how some problems with the mouse in vista, it wont work until i do ctrl+alt+delete and then the mouse works. It could just be a bad mouse but i want to make sure before i go buy a new one.

thanks in advance for the help....

OK, but for general interest, the problem you describe often occurs as the batteries in the mouse are about discharged. Changing the batteries often solves the problem.

(I'm assuming that, by a "USB mouse," you mean a "wireless USB mouse." If you just meant a mouse connected to the USB port, this remark will miss the mark.)

P.S. - For use with a laptop, I've found a wireless thumb-wheel mouse to be the best choice since I often end up working where there's no place to rest a mouse and move it around.
