External MIDI - does not work
Hi, been trying this for hours now with no success. I am trying to hook up an external MIDI keyboard to Ubuntu (Studio) with no sucess. I can play MIDI files but not get the s/w to reguster any events from the MIDI keyboard. I have a soundblaster LIve! with front panel and am usng the MIDI in on this, with a ROland PC-300 kybd. Headphones work fine on the panel so I know this has been connected OK. The software (Rosegarden) 'sees' the keyboard as in input device but nothing happens when I play.
Really grateful for any pointers to what I can try next? |
Hi
I use a tool called QJackCtl to connect MIDI input from my keyboard to the software synthesizer (timidity, in my case, under normal Debian). Also there are other tools but I don't use them since I use the "jack sound server" anyway and think qjackctl is a good tool. Does this sound interesting? |
I recently purchased an old Roland PC-300 MIDI keyboard. Will it work in Ubuntu using the USB connection?

@Samael: If you are already able to plug it in, you can try the QJackCtl tool I mentioned before. In my case, it updates available MIDI devices automatically (my midi->usb convertor appears and disappears in connect->ALSA), but there is also a "refresh" button just in case.
