External HD not listed when using qBittorrent

I have Linux Mint Cinnamon. My external shows as mounted. I can read/play files from it as well as move files to it/from it using file manager. However, when I use qBittorrent, it doesn't list the external as a path to download torrents to. I've also noticed this when I tried messing around with Plex and the external (or any external/usb) would not be listed as a viable option. I really would just like to be able to download torrents to my external since I don't have that much space on my computer's hd. I know next to nothing about using the Terminal. Any help appreciated.

do you mean in the sidebar?
have you tried navigating to the appropriate folder instead?

maybe your Qt version (4 or 5 for qbittorrent?) is configured to use native file dialogs, which are a little stark.
with qt5ct you can tell it to use GTK file dialogs instead.

No, I tried navigating at the top and I can choose any folder and anything local but nothing externally attached is even listed.
I'm currently out of town all this week and can't check what version I have but I thought it was 4.5? I had just clicked on that green square (sorry I forget what that's called) and searched for programs and just downloaded the top rated torrent program which was BitTorrent. I only remember seeing one BitTorrent. Maybe ill try a different program.

then please show us the path to the external drive (i guess you can copy that from your filemanager) and explain to us why you cannot navigate to that path with qbittorrent.

sorry, i was talking about the Qt gui toolkit version that qbittorrent uses, you can find out from inside qbittorrent (menu => help => about Qt).

The version is V4.0.3 (64bit)
The path for the external is /mnt (sorry, I was typing the wrong path in before but found it the way you told me to) After I typed it in, Bittorrent added a slash afterwards? Does that make a difference? (/mnt/)

However, now when I try to download anything, bittorrent gives me this error.

I/O error occurred.(file name whatever)
Permission denied

go you options->downloads->'click on default save path little buttin on right hand side->computer-> / (click on it) -> look in /run/media/userName (yours)
Mint might be the one that mounts in /media so look in there too.
provided you've opened a file manager and made sure it is mounted so qbittorrent will see it.

you are looking for the name of the external drive. If you do not have it labeled then it should be a long number letter scheme.

code and quote tags is an html thing, it consist of square brackets the open tag is two brackets left and right with the word code or quote within it without any spaces between the three, and the end tag with the use of the forward slash to indicate a close tag as it is also known as.

[ code ] <--- open tag ' code goes here ' [ / code ] <--- close or end tag same for quote, no spaces between them so it works.

hi this is a quote : "but johnny said..."
show complete output,, that is whatever command or app that is giving output to the terminal, copy paste it between the code tags, depending on which terminal you're using, some have mouse capabilities, right click copy, then pastes into the browser.

others select move mouse pointer to webpage middle button click to paste.

So I did what you had mentioned and you were right. Mint was the one that mounts so I looked in there and then there was the long number letter scheme. I hadn't been doing anything/mounting using the terminal.

Thanks for being patient with me! And thanks for helping me!

no problem, and if you label your partitions, it will get rid the long line of numbers and letters. making it easier to distinguish what you have mounted.
