ext4, samba, and windows

I was reading the wikipedia page for ext4 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext4
and it has a windows and mac compatibility section at the bottom. This is referring to if you directly attached an ext4 drive to your PC or Mac, right?
Just want to make sure, as i'm setting up an ext4 filesystem that I want to share out via samba, that I need to have both Windows and Macs use. But the computers talk to samba, and samba talks to ext4, so I think its ok.

The server does not hand out the ext4 file-system to the connected boxes, it hands out the cifs file-system, which can be used by any modern OS. Which file-system you use on the server is not relevant at all for the connected machines.

Thanks for confirming, and thank you for explaining it in a much more technical manner than I did.
