ext2, ext3 or reiser FS
slackware 10.0 install asked me which file system i wanted.
ext2 - fast and stable it said ext3 - same as ext2 but with journaling capabilities reiser - journaling with a tree like structure it's just a workstation, nothing special. maybe i'll run apache or ftp, but thats about it. so i chose ext2, bad or good? thanks... |
Well, like it said, ext2 is not journalled, so that makes it more difficult to recover the filesystem after a crash or power outage. I've never had a problem with Reiser and very few with ext3, so I'd go with one of those.

Go with ext3. reisers has some issues with security and permissions
|
If you are running Slackware, I suggest you go with what Patrick makes the default: reiser
FWIW that's what I do, and at least for me I haven't had any issues. -- J.W. |
yeah if ur computer shutsdown unexpectedly while u have ext2 then most probably it wont startups again
i choose reiserfs also and havent had any problems |
Another vote for reiser. But the important thing is to not use ext2, really, and you can switch to ext3 with a simple tune2fs -j, IIRC.
|
I like ext3 the best. I've had no problems and I am very happy with it.
|
Another ext3 vote, simpler than reiser and it gets the job done well.
|
with reiser, if you format, does it completely wipe out the harddrive? If not how would you completely wipe it out?
|
I go ext3 all the way
