export Path vs. PATH


I get a SECOND Path variable instead, showing the new path, when I type "env" afterwards. Is there some other way to add something to the path?



Debian Etch, bash shell(I'll use anything that works if you have a better idea), opening the shell as root.

I see the error: ALL caps on "PATH"
