Thumbs up exit text editor


using this tutorial to change ip settings how do i exit and save?

Hi,

That looks like vi.

Press ESC and then :wq!

The w tells vi to write the file, the q quits the file and the ! forces the write and quit.

You can use gedit to edit files (until you've mastered vi, which I haven't yet ).

sudo gedit /etc/network/interfaces
Edit:
Should be :

gksudo gedit (then whatever file)

For vi/vim, you only need

esc

:x

My compliments for using vi It's a very good text editor, but it's very hard to learn. The advantage of vi above all the other editors, is that you'll find this text editor on every other linux and unix system you'll find. That's my reason for mastering the arts of vi
