Ex-photoshop user needs GIMP help
Hey, I'm a fairly new GNU/Linux user and i've been using Photoshop 7, cs, cs2 and cs3. I am what you could call a photoshop poweruser.
But I'm tired of M$ Windows and i want to install GNU/Linux on my computers so i have been running Fedora 7 and Ubuntu 7.04 through VMWare for about a week. I haven't made the final decision about which distro i wanna use, but since I'm an enthusiastic photographer i have been using GIMP everyday and now i have some questions. Does TheGIMP have function similar to PS's "Create new fill or adjustment layer"? a function to use ie. levels or Hue/Saturation as a layer that you can adjust or erase from. I would be happy if anyone would help me. Regards. //Swulff |

(I don't know the answer....;) ) You can also run PS on Linux using WINE or CrossOver Office. I was a PS "power-user-in-training" when I got on the Linux bandwagon. I now use GIMP for 99% of all photo work. I think getting Adobe to port the whole CS to Linux would be a real coup---do they realize there are now more Linux users than Mac users? (I have heard this, but can't substantiate it...) |
PS on GNU/Linux
Well, i already run PS7 on Linux, but since adobe just released PS10 and Crossover is only compatibel with PS7.. GIMP can easily keep up with PS7.
I was allso thinking of using VMWare on GNU/Linux and virtualise windows and install PS10 that way. |

In the Gimp, click on the Help menu and open the help manual. Check out the instructions on masking, layers, and hue/saturation tools. It's either addind a mask layer to work with, adjusting hues, or, it's duplicating the layer of interest, and working with that.
