everything on desktop is not display


hi all
in this afternoon,i still see all on my Desktop but after i restart or do something, everythings is disappear.
I used ls to check it and everything is still there but not appear on my desktop.I dont know why.
Have anyone can tell me why and what was happen with my Desktop

you don't tell us what distro you're using or what desktop environment you run yet we're supposed to be able to guess? ok i guess at fedora. i guess at gnome and i guess that nautilus crashed. open a console and restart it by running "nautilus"

Thanks u r right
Im using fedora 6.0, use Gnome environment.
I have find nautilus follow this path:
/usr/lib/nautilus
but inside have a directory is extention

[root@10 extensions-1.0]# ls
libevince-properties-page.so libnautilus-sendto.so
libnautilus-burn-extension.so libnautilus-themus.so
libnautilus-fileroller.so libtotem-properties-page.so
libnautilus-fontilus.so
[root@10 extensions-1.0]# cd /usr/lib/nautilus
[root@10 nautilus]# ls
extensions-1.0

i dont know how to start it.for sure i have try not only waiting.

that's for libraries, not for binaries....

try whereis nautilus, or just type it in a console....

but now how can i start nautilus

[root@10 sbin]# find / -name nautilus
/usr/share/nautilust
/usr/share/pixmaps/nautilus
/usr/lib/nautilus
/usr/bin/nautilus

above command to finf where is naulius there is right?
but i cannot find anycommand as start or service inside to start it
what can i do at this time?

but now is ok, i have installed some package (in add or remove software )about nautilus and now is ok.

i wasn't asking you to find a command or a service or whatever... Ijust wanted you to type in the letters n, a, u, t, i, l, u and s, then press enter.

you need to run it as the normal user, the owner of the X server. again, i didn't say "su to become root"
