Ethernet driver help for ASUS p4p800 with Debian

K heres the problem when I do a
#make load
I get
gcc: /usr/src/linux-2.4/include/linux/version.h: no such file or directory
same thing again right after except its autoconf.h
I thinks it becuase the source isn't installed yet so I used apt to get the source whcih gave me a tar file which I then unzipped. But when looking in the tar file I found no version.h or autoconf.h

So I guess I'm just asking where these two files can be found so I can put them in

Thanks for any help
