Ethernet card driver instalation

Please help me,
I'm installing the driver for my D-Link Ethernet card.
I have instructions in front of me, but I do not understand one thing.

In one moment instructions goes like this:

Quote:
"Compile the driver source files and it will generate rhineft.o....."

What means "COMPILE THE DRIVER SORCE FILES"?

Thanks in advance

It helps to know a little more about what you're actually doing so we can try to suggest different solutions (if any). What card is it? Exact model number, please.

Compiling means converting the source code, as written by the programmers, to the actual runnable program. To do this you need a fully functional development environment including the gcc compiler suite and probably several other programs like make. You will most likely also need the kernel source code for the kernel that your system is using.

The DFE-530TX should be able to use the via-rhine driver or the 8139too driver, so use them instead.
