Ethernet card detection
Hi,
I've just installed RH9 on a Compaq Armada M700. Everything works fine except for one thing. Linux doesn't seem to detect my ethernet card. How can i get linux do detect it? Or, where did things go wrong? cheers, rick |
Type lspci as root and see whether you're ethernet card is listed there. Else, you're card is not recognised. But that is very rare to happen.

I tried lsipc, it doesn't mention any ethernet card controllers. Does that means linux doesn't see the card, or the card is not actually physically working?

I think you're card is not detected by linux. Was the card working under windows ? And, can you please post the output of the lspci command?

I only ran windows for a few hours after installing rh (getting completely rid of ms-w) and never noticed whether the card was or was not working.

You mean you don't have windows ? You must be very brave man. As for your card, it is certainly not detected by linux. I've heard that there are some problem's with compaq models, and I don't have one :).
We'll have to wait till someone using your model or some-one who has solved your problem comes along. I'll try to search for it in the mean-time :). |
Thanks a lot.

I have the same problem, I have not yet found a solution. The problem persists in windows too. But I think this is a hardware problem, not a kernel or OS problem. The link-light wont ever light up when I connect a cable to it.
