Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Hi,
I'm running RH9. Everything seems to work, but I can't get internet to function properly. In neat, i've set-up a eth0 connection using dhcp. I can activate it without complaints, but there simply is no network when it is active. When I use /sbin/ifup eht0 it says: "Determining IP information for eth0...iptables: No chain/target/match by that name done. Iptables: bad rule (does a matching rule exist in that chain?)"
I've had all this working before and reinstalled RH9 recently, but can't seem to figure out what has changed inbetween.
Any answers?
--Sorry, I've found out the answer.
I didn't provide the dhcp hostname information and did not check the box which makes sure the dns info is obtained from the provider (although I would swear i did!

hi...I'm having the same problem...eth0 is detected, but no internet! everything looks fine, and I've checked and doublechecked that it recieves the info from provider. I just booted up the day before yesterday, and no internet! before that it was working fine. Any ideas to help me?
Aparently, I'm up and running again. I just don't understand it. And now, MSN works with GAIM. I haven't updated the version or changed anything. What happened?
