eth0 does not exist question

I am fairly new to linux and am trying to set up a Clark connect 3.1 gateway. I think the problem I'm having may be more specific to the kernel startup though. I installed and configured my box as a standalone and eth0 worked fine everything was rosy. My radius server was working off the onboard ethernet and I had an IP. Then I installed a PCI NIC and rebooted. It worked fine and collected an IP but my onboard ethermet wasn't recognized anymore. So I shutdown and removed the PCI card and rebooted. Now my onboard ethernet isn't being recognized at startup and I'm not sure how to make it recognized. I know it still works because I can boot a live cd and use the port no problem.
Thanks for the help

Which disto are you using?
Type "lspci" in the terminal, and paste the output here.
