Eterm starts in wrong directory
I recently installed the Windows truetype fonts on my system, but I wound up having to remove and reinstall the XFree package. Everything (surprisingly) seems to still be working, but I notice that when I open Eterm, it starts in the Eterm src directory rather than my home directory. Where is this set and how do I go about changing it? Thanks!

That's odd. How are you starting eterm? Because if you don't start X from the eterm source directory and the eterm source directory isn't on your path and any shortcut or icon or whoozits doesn't specifically invoke it from there, I don't even see how that's possible. If any of those things are the case, though, just change them, I guess.

If I type /usr/bin/Eterm, it opens a new Eterm window with me in /usr/local/src/EtermSlackware.
EDIT: xterm starts in /usr/local/src/EtermSlackware as well. After completely wiping out Eterm and its dependencies and reinstalling (sorry, Windows mindset is still around I suppose), I get the following error when opening Eterm: Eterm: Warning: Unable to chdir to "" -- No such file or directory shell-init: could not get current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory And the following with xterm: shell-init: could not get current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories: No such file or directory Running "gnome-terminal" puts me right in my home directory without any errors. I can't seem to find anything that explains what determines where the terminal puts you originally when you open it. EDIT 2: Wow, I guess getting frustrated with something makes you miss the obvious (or what you've been told). I was starting X from that directory for some reason. Thanks. |
Ah, glad you got it straightened out. I know exactly what you mean about getting frustrated and missing things. A good policy would be to take 5 and come back to the problem but I can't make myself do it. It's more like 'Try A. No? Okay, B. Well, I should stop but C's gotta do it! Argh! D!!!' and so on. :D
