essential keyboard commands wanted

Hi,

I cannot Log Out; (Ctrl+alt+Bckspce) or
re-boot (Raising Skinny Ellephants...) from the keyboard.

nnjond,

oops sorry, I thought it was shutdown, it is Log Out:

So it is Ctl+Alt+Backspace
or RAlt+Print+k

or try: root@host-#: init 3

What distro are you running? are you in ssh or local?

Ctrl+Alt+Bkspce isn't really for logging out, it's for killing (and restarting) the xserver. Of course that generally kills your login session too, but you really should be logging out properly through your regular desktop environment tools.

Anyway, recent versions of xorg have changed the default kill switch to RightAlt+PrintScreen+k, as it was thought that the original combination was too easy to hit accidentally. There are ways to change it back though, which you can certainly discover with a simple search here or on google. I personally agree with the change.

Finally, I have absolutely no idea what you mean by "Raising Skinny Ellephants".

Thanks for your help. Ralt++PrintScreen+k works fine.

My gui, gnome, freezes, or leaves me with an ineffective mouse from time to time while the only thing i seem to be doing is multi-tasking.Are there any other remedies i should prefer?
