ES56H-PI not working - still?

Two months ago, on numerous pages I've read that my winmodem ES56H-PI (chipset ess 2838) is not supported in Linux (RH9). I've referenced mostly on forums, linmodems.org and personal.myvine.com/~gromitkc/dips/roster.html

So, has anything changed? Has someone found a solution (compiled driver) for this specific modem?

Thanks in advance!
