Errors when running KDE

I have asked this in the slackware forum but not had a response.

If when running KDE I press alt-ctrl-F1 to look at the command line it shows what appear to be error messages from when KDE was started

The line

ASSERT: "filter !=NULL in kcursor.cpp(413)

is shown many times. From my limited knowledge it looks like a c programming problem.

Then there is the line

ALSA lib pcm-hw.c:1055snd_pcm_open) open /dev/snd/pcmCODOP failed : Permisssion denied

Perhaps it would be best to view some sort of log of all the messages shown on the console when KDE starts. Is a log kept? Is it possible to collect them in a text file eg by sending all the bash output to a file? Does it matter? Anyone know what is going on?

Thanks.

check on /var/log/kern.log

I am using Debian though...

Also you can try ...
~$ dmesg | less
to view on screen the messages

or..
~$ dmesg > my_log_file.log
to save it to a file.

there is another log files you can check...
/var/log/kde.log
and...
/var/log/XFree86.0.log

[edit]

Log as 'root' after you pressed ctrl-alt-F1

Thanks.
I don't think everything got into myfile.log. Is there a limit on the buffer size?
