Arrow error with missing of mysql.sock

Hii...I installed mysql 5.0.37....Mysql is running but unable to connect to mysql.

Error is not connect to socket through mysql.sock.

I connected this socket in my.cnf as /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock.

If i give the command locate mysql.sock, it showing the path /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock. but not visible in winSCP.

Please send me the documentation for installing mysql 5.0.37 in linux.
