with all due respect, why bother? just use the standard installer from firefox. just because there's no rpm for rhel5, doesn't mean you need to compile it yourself.

In normal installer of firefox-2.0.0.4 everytime i have to go in to firefox folder and run ./firefox. Ls there anyway i could run my mozilla as desktop icon. i am doing this because my older firefox-1.5.0.9-10.el5.i386.rpm get crashed. when i open firefox and type www.gmail.com and put my mail id and press enter my firefox diappers

Nope, you should right click on the Applications item on your menu bar and select Edit menus. Then you can create an new Firefox item and specify the command to launch it; no need for the command line after that.
