Installed Point&Click Linux 2004 on DELL PIII comp and I get ERROR while initializing the sound driver: device/dev/dsp can't be opened ( no such device) I am new to linux and trying to learn.

I have similar problems with my sound and ethernet in PCLinuxOS2007. I only get the error message with the sound server; no error message in re ethernet. However, when booted, I can't connect to the internet.

I've checked and the necessary modules are loaded; all seems well. The only solution I have found is to delete my sound card and ethernet configs in harddrake and make them manually. Sound and ethernet work until I shut down. When I re-boot, they don't work (again) and I have to delete/make the configs manually (again).
