Error While adding new fedora Repositary

Dear All,

I have created a new file new.repo in /etc/yum.reos.d/.

Here is the content of new.repo file

Code:
[fedora]
name=Fedorarepo
baseurl=http://www.muug.mb.ca/pub/fedora/linux/releases/12/Everything/x86_64/os/
enabled=1
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=http://www.muug.mb.ca/pub/fedora/linux/releases/12/Everything/x86_64/os/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-x86_64
I am getting following error when I try to search for something

Code:
[vinay@vinay etc]$ sudo yum search erar
Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
http://www.muug.mb.ca/pub/fedora/linux/releases/12/Everything/x86_64/os/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 6 - ""
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again
The error is due to appended ":" at the end of the URL **repomd.xml:. Why is it getting appended ? Please advice.

Try
Code:
wget http://www.muug.mb.ca/pub/fedora/linux/releases/12/Everything/x86_64/os/repodata/repomd.xml
to confirm you have connectivity. Does your machine require proxy configuration to get to the internet ?

vinaytp ??? a question WHY WHY are you making yum repo files BY HAND ?????

never do that with fedora ( unless it is your own private repo )
use kbp's wget command
and WHY do you need to add a different mirror than is already in the fedora mirror list
the default base fedora 12 mirror list has all the official mirrors

Dear JohnVV and kbp,

Thanks for your replys.

I have tried to use the default repositaries of fedora before, But I could not able to connect to the default repositaries. I have put lot of efforts in finding out the reason.

Finally I moved all the default repositary configuration files to other location and added a third part repositary which was working fine for last 6 months.
Now I deleted it because the third party repositary repositary I added is not accessible.

But as per kbp I could do wget from my command line. The only reason for not connecting is appending : at the end of the Baseurl. I have mentioned that in my previous post. I am not getting why is that colon getting appended when it tries to connect the repositary.

Please observe the below line.

Code:
x86_64/os/repodata/repomd.xml:
Thanks

The colon is merely a separator between the action yum was attempting and the error message it generated, it isn't the cause of the problem.

cheers

have you tried removing the presto yum plugin?It has always given me problems in the past
fastmirror ?? for some there are issues for others none

but from the error it is a python error
the python install and the version for the scripts that run everything in fedora must match

was there an interrupted update and only part of them installed ?
and have you done the standard
yum clean all
rpm --rebuilddb

Hi John VV,

I replaced original fedora repositary files in /etc/yum.repos.d/. I tried removing presto yum plugin as you suggested

Code:
[vinay@vinay yum.repos.d]$ sudo yum list all
Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again
Still No luck. Any ideas ?

try using a different file path from the same mirror
http://www.muug.mb.ca/pub/fedora/linux/releases/12/
http://www.muug.mb.ca/pub/fedora/lin...4/os/repodata/

Code:
  wget http://www.muug.mb.ca/pub/fedora/linux/releases/12/Fedora/x86_64/os/repodata/repomd.xml
and you DO know that this is a old repo and the last update to it was in Nov. 2009
and it dose not have the fedora default updates folder
so there are NO updates in this repo
this is a good mirror for the updates
http://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/updates/12/x86_64/
http://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/upd...ata/repomd.xml
