Error when trying to install gaim

configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in

it seems that you need to install gcc which is the linux c compiler.

OK, done that, got a new error now

configure: error: C++ preprocessor "/lib/cpp" fails sanity check

how did you install gcc? i'm at work on an xp machine, but i'm sure there are some necessary library files also such as glibc.
